March 23, 2008

Had the famous Tally crew yesterday.  The Tally boys like the redfish and that is what we did. It started a little slow, but as most good fisherman know it only takes one good spot to make the day. Popping corks with live minnows or berkly gulps were the key. In fishing for reds we were hoping to find a few trout, but it did not happen. Capt. Sonny called us in on his bite, but did not take the offer. Thinking the same conditions just 200 yards down would produce, but nada. Props to Capt. Sonny and Sumrall crew. We did catch a couple of flounder with only one going in the box. I found  that the gulp shrimp work well throwing them up in the grass and very slow bumping them on the bottom. A gradually sloping bank seems to be better than one that drops of steep.

Both boats out today with a little ying and a little yang. I had the Sean Summurall group, one dad and two feisty youth. We had to get some of Capt Matt's Intel to find some trout and yes it did work. We worked one bank early this morning with shells, and got on some good fish. I would never have fished this type of condition had it not been for the good Capt Matt. We put a good 25 trout in the box, all on avocado cocahoe under the popping cork. Spent the rest of the day sight casting  to red fish. The north wind let us fish some of the banks we normally fish. We saw most of our fish in small cuts and lagoons. Used live cocahoe on the pitch and it worked well.

March 21, 2008

Had one half of the Mike Godfrey group today. The marsh was still a bit dirty from the wind, but we still made a day of it. A few more trout today, and Capt Matt had some real nice fish(he can tell his own fish story). Basically just pounded banks of open bays all day long. Saw very few fish, and hooked all the bulls blind casting live bait under the popping cork. Found one very shallow pond in the last hour of the day. Saw 10 slot reds in just 300 feet of shore line(only caught one). The afternoon was beautiful for the ride in.

The Mike Godfrey crew had a good day today.  I thought we were going to have a rough day of it, because of the winds and the neap tide, but just the opposite. We started off fishing the leeward side of banks with no luck. I slow trolled a windward bank I knew had shells on it. With a few cast started catching some nice trout and reds.  I followed the same pattern all day, windward banks with shells and oyster clumps. It seemed to be the ticket. My guys and I didn't get on any big schools of fish, but caught fish all day. We ended the day with ten reds and fifteen quality trout.

March 15, 2008

Well, this is a late post from Thursday. I had the Miley family for a day of redfishing. The conditions were tuff but still managed to get young Kelly on a nice 32 inch red. Pops managed to put a few in the boat as well. Today(Sat.) I had James Martin and his cousin. We hit the very first bank coming through ninemile where we could get out of the wind. The guys and I made a good morning of fishing this bank that was holding plenty of reds. They were cruising the banks like soldiers. We put a few in the box and called it a day. The winds were the worst I have been out in, in along time. Taking it slow we got home safe. We got them all on gold spoons.

March 13, 2008

Had a call this morning and two fellas wanted to go fishing. Glen, Todd and myself left at the crack of noon. Turned out to be the right play. We had alot of wind and a very high tide, but we were able to get into some of the ponds we have been trying to fish. Picked off some red fish and black drum first thing, sight casting. The wind got kinda out of control, so we pitched live shrimp into drains and lagoons. We pay dirt in the last 45 minutes of the evening. We caught bulls, slots and rats every cast. Sorry to say we were one fish shy of our two man limit, but we did release two fish for every one keeper. Late night , but a good day.

March 12, 2008

Both boats out today, and what a day it was. I had Uncle Jessie and Joey along for the ride. We spent the entire day sight casting to red fish. The only problem was, we could not find slot fish. The fish we saw, hooked and caught were all bulls. No matter, this fun bunch loved the thrill of the hunt. We found several spots in the marsh were you could see a good 50 feet to the bank. We saw everything today:turtles, stingray, huge alligator gar, redfish, sheephead, and black drum. We pitched live cocahoe minnows all day(from lafrances marina). Always a good time with Jessie and Joey, and can't wait to see them again. Thanks for a great day guys....

I had Mr. Reed and son Jeff from a little town near Jackson today. We set out in perfect conditions, which hung around all day.  The morning was slow.  As the day went on, the flats heated up and the fish started biting. The reds started to show themselves, and a few trout came out for a bite. We ended up with a nice  bag of fish. Thank you Mr. Reed and Jeff for the awesome day on the water.

March 10, 2008

Brother Evan and I set out about 9:00. I wanted to put him on a few reds, and that we did. Evan hooked up first. This red was trailing behind the boat, and Evan shot and scored. The bays around the outer Biloxi marsh are holding good numbers of reds. The water was up in the grass, so the reds were a little more scattered then in the past week. We did catch a few small trout after the noon sunshine.

March 9, 2008

Had a father and son team today. Big John and little John Marquez were along for the experience. Both of these fellas have been fishing with me a few times and we always have a blast. Big John showed up today at the Bayou Caddy launch with a portable livewell full of shrimp. I did not think it was needed, but I was a tad bit excited to see it. We made our way to the marsh and tried to find a few trout, did not happen. Big John and Lil John have never had a good sight casting trip with me, but we have done almost everything else. The wind picked up, but the sun was out. Every spot we fished we had shots on reds all day long. We picked off some nice slot reds, and one small black drum. Slow trolling the banks with live shrimp saved the day. Most of the fish were singles but it was very tough to spot them. Using live bait was like selling air to an astronaut, even if you over shot your cast the red fish would come looking for it. Great day, with a great father and son team.

March 6, 2008

We hit the marsh again today, for more red fishing. I had Alex and Sean join in on some of the fun. We found many schools of reds, some with 10 or more fish in the schools. The conditions were not the best, but we managed. The weather is looking good for most of next week so give us a call.

March 6, 2008

Another day back in the home waters. Both boats out again today and we ran all over the marsh. Had good friend Chris Ward along for the ride. Chris was interested in sight casting with topwater for red fish . The wind and tide kept us out of some of our spots, but we found what we were looking for. We found most of our fish in ponds but found some shallow cuts in the afternoon loaded with slot fish. When we found good clean water we could actually watch the fish turn and chomp on his topwater lure. Gonna try and hit the boat show this Saturday and get back on the water when this next front lays down. Got some days open next week if anyone wants to get in on some the action.

March 5, 2008

Well, AJ and I headed out to the marsh for another day of fishing. We fished hard knowing we may not be able to fish for a few days. The redfish were thick. Every bank we stopped had redfish, some more than others. The key was to keep moving until you found those banks and ponds with multiple schools of redfish. The sheephead can be found on most banks. Live or dead shrimp is the ticket to getting a few of those guys in the boat. With the days starting to warm up, capt. sonny and I will be spending plenty of time on the water getting a lock down on the fish.
