This page contains our most recent fishing reports. Some of the places may be familiar only to locals, however the fishing action is easily recognizable no matter where you are from! May 8, 2010 Fished Friday and Saturday with mixed results. Friday was William Chaffe and his buddy Robert. The South West wind kinda of blew what was working for us in the previous days. Plan B was to head towards the Rigolets and look for reds . Did get a few, but just that, a few. Covered some water and saw plenty of bait. Great crew, but a slow day at best. All the reds we caught came off live cocahoe minnows(thanks Bay Marina). Today we had the Andrew Pittman crew. After assisting local police with a car wreck, they still showed up early. We hit the reefs to take advantage of the light north winds. Saw plenty of boats fishing and was very happy to see everyone enjoying the day. We fished next to Capt Matt most of the morning. We simply followed his lead hammering the white trout , ground mullet , and several big specks. Did most of the damage with popping corks and soft plastics. When the bite would slow, we would either put on the live cocahoes or switch to carolina rigs with shrimp or cut bait. Wind picked up in the afternoon and we headed home with 46 mixed fish. Just had this coming Saturday cancel if anyone wants to go fishing. - Capt. Sonny May 6, 2010 Quick morning, but a good day. Had a last minute call from the world famous Marlowe tribe. Jimmy and is buddies Henry and Mike wanted to get in a few hours of fishing. Only fished for 4 hours and change and found some nice fish for the boys. When the smoke cleared, we put 21 big keepers in the box and headed home early. Everything came off popping corks with either Marsh Works shrimp or bayou thumpers. Still got boats open if anyone wants to get in on the great fishing and nice weather. -Capt. Sonny May 5, 2010 Stellar Day It has been a while since I have posted a report. A lot of bad weather and wind followed by a busted oil well. I have been fishing all week trying to find fish in waters that are open. It has been working just fine. Capt. Sonny and I fished Monday, and caught more white trout and ground mullet than we could handle with a few speckled trout and a red mixed in the bunch. Tuesday I was able to get out with Capt. Sonny and Capt. Kyle and managed to have a great day catching some quality speckled trout . Today was the day. I actually had someone willing to fish 40 miles from the first drop of oil. Terry Schrader and I had one of the best days I have had this year. Capt. Kenny gave me a tip and it worked. We caught nice fish some in the 2-3lb range. All fish were caught on jigs slow bounced on the bottom(avocado/red glitter). The fish were hungry and willing to take the bait. Terry wanted to catch just one red and ended up catching his limit. All the reds took the same avocado plastic. It was a great trip. Terry went home with 2 full gallon bags of trout and 1 of redfish . We ended the day with 25 trout and 5 reds. -Capt. Matt May 5, 2010 Left early this morning, and it paid off. Had long time friend and fellow guide Capt Brian Gagnon off the Southern Way along for the ride with myself and Capt Kyle. We needed to get home early today and only fished till 10:45. Flat calm, pretty water, and the bait was thick. Never found an every cast bite but grinded away at some very very nice specks. Kept 30 something eater trout , Capt Brian got top honors with one pushing 5lbs. All fish came off the plastics. Capt Matt called a little while ago. Sounded like he only had one guy today, and he got his 25 trout and 5 reds . He went a different direction but said the water, weather and fishing were perfect. Weather has been beautiful the last few days and we hope it to stay that way. - Capt Sonny. May 4, 2010 Back at it again today, this time Capt Kyle came along with me and Capt Matt. Still checking out a few spots and really enjoying the warm weather. Little wind in the morning but if was flat calm most of the day. Went looking for trout all day and found some nice ones. Fished the reefs with tight lined plastics(corky baits, marsh works, and norton sand eels) to get 22 healthy specks. Water was dirty, but cleaned up as the day went on. Still got boats open and the lodge as well... - Capt. Sonny May 3, 2010 Had to take a peek out there today, the weather was too nice. Capt Matt and I made an afternoon trip to see what we could do in water that was still open for fishing. We left from Bayou Caddy and fished some of the man made reefs around Waveland and Bay St. Louis. They were loaded with fish and we had a great day reef hopping. Really just made sure what spots were holding fish. Almost every stop was full of big white trout and ground mullet . Used Carolina rigs with shrimp or cut bait and could have sunk the boat. Fished a little bit of shore line later in the afternoon to find a few keeper specks and Matt got a nice red(released). We kept a mixed bag of 34 eaters for the cause. Matt and I have been fishing together for over 25 years and it was really neat to spend the day fishing off the coast telling stories from days past. Glad we went and we are headed back out in the morning, with Capt Kyle in tow. Weather looks great and we have boats available. Capt. Sonny April 18, 2010 Missed a few days, been going strong since Friday. Had a fun one on Friday, the Matheson's and their buddy Todd Garret. Lafrances had live shrimp, but we never really used them. Found the bay chovies in the morning and should have stayed on them. Went looking for greener grass and never found it. Came back to the bay chovies and put a small, but good box of speck s in the boat. They cleaned their fish, but I think we had around 25 good ones. Saturday I had one half of the David Malone group. We learned our lesson from the day before and stayed with the bait. The water was flat calm, clear and full of bait. Capt Kyle's boat and mine put 71 keeper trout in the box along with 8 reds following the bay chovies. Last stop of the day, the guys got all 4 rods hooked up on bull reds(broke off 2, landed two). What a way to end the day! Today was Monte Dabbs and his buddy Jerrad. Got these boys for two days so we got our red fishing out of the way today. Had low water and a Eastern wind today. Got back in a few drains and tipped the marsh works shrimp with dead shrimp under the popping corks. Got 9 keeper size reds and released many bulls. Did roll up on one school of slot sized reds with about 20 fish in it. The few trout we caught were large, but only got 9 big uns. Water temp is perfect at 72 degrees. If anyone was waiting to go, now is the time. Weather has been great and the fishing is finally where it should be. -Sonny April 18, 2010 I have only had one day off since the 9th, and my body is starting to feel the pain. I hope everyone enjoyed the nice weekend. The weather was perfect for a day on the water. Friday I had the pleasure of fishing with K.C. and the Forshag Band. Being old salts from the Big Easy, they were well seasoned in the art of trout fishing. We fished hard all morning catching a lot more fish than we kept. K.C. had the big trout of the day coming in a little over 3lbs. The boys were done, so we called it a little before noon with 25 trout and 2 reds . Saturday I had three doctors from Gulfport who were one of the easiest groups I have ever had. We made it to the first spot to find very little bait and nothing but spanish and little trout. After two hours of grinding it out I called it quits and went in search of something better. That we did, we had one good rally and put a few in the box. Hit a school of bonus bulls and called it a day. We went home with 32 trout, 1 red, and we released a couple bulls and 1 big nasty drum . I hope to see these guys again. Sunday I had Tom Wissing and his Dad. We started out with high hopes for the morning. After stories of Capt. Kyle and Sonny's awesome trip from the day before, Speckled Trout were on the brain. The morning bite just did not happened like we had hoped. My crew and I just had to work a little harder. We bumped around the marsh all day catching a few here and there. Found two good schools of reds, but most were bulls and too big for the box. We managed to make it back to the dock with 30 speckled trout and 5 out of 12 reds we caught. -Matt For more information or to book a date call Capt.
