I hope everyone is keeping dry!! I did manage to fish last Thursday and Friday. We did spend both days in the rain, but were able to find some dry spots.
Thursday we hooked it to the marsh with an eye on the clouds and lightening in the distance. We landed at our first spot, and just like that, we were on the trout . Mr. Bill and Roy were catching them as fast as they could. We were fishing a winward bank with halfway clean water. Most of our fish were caught on plastics under a cork. We managed 38 trout out of that hole. I wanted to get the rest of their limit. The second spot finished the limit and gave us a few reds . We ended the day with 50 speckled trout , 7 reds, 12 SKA. - Matt

These reports are from last week, sorry for the late post, still busy changing diapers. Wednesday was the Jobst Elster crew of 2 people. They wanted a break from the Casinos and fishing was pretty good. Water was dirty in most spots, but we put a day together. Shrimp did almost of the damage for the dozen trout , 5 reds and two flounder . Thursday was Jim Watts for a very brief trip. Pulled away from the dock at 7am and was back for 10AM, not our normal trip at all. Only did find a handful of trout, but time was a huge factor. There is such a thing as the morning bite, but hey, they only had three hours and we went. Friday was the world famous JEM crew led by Ken Monti. Got an early start and went to work. Had a good live well of shrimp, but the plastics worked too. Had to find banks in the three mile area on the leeward side to find the "clean" water. Been using some schooling from my good buddy Capt Charlie Thomason. He always tells me to look for things off the water to help you find your fish. Just because you caught them on certain dates in years past does not mean a thing. Looking for trees to bloom or leaves to change can mean more. I know it sounds crazy, but I look for love bugs . Every year, when the love bugs show up in the spring and fall, the trout show up on the grass beds in the marsh. Anyone with a car wind shield can tell our little romantic insects are here. We used this info to find 85 white and speckled trout . Did find one red and limped home. Saw Capt Matt at the Shore Side Lodge yesterday and he had nice box of trout and reds. The wind has played a huge factor in our days, but the fish are still here. - Sonny

Guys I fished Sunday and Monday with good results! After those early morning thunderstorms, it would clear up enough to get out and fish until about noon. At noon you better have been heading back to the barn!

Sunday I fished with the Sean, Chance, Lloyd, and Clint. The first spot was good to us, catching fifteen solid 16-18 in. trout on live shrimp. The second spot was the honey hole! We fished a winward bank that had crystal clear water. I fished a jig on the bottom while the rest of the bunch fished the same jig under a cork. We caught two or three 16-20 in. trout every twenty feet it seemed. The wind and storms only allowed us to make one pass down that 150 yard stretch. We headed to the dock with 43 nice trout and 2 fat flatties.

Monday I had Josh and Laura. We started the morning fishing close to home due to the looks of the sky. It was hard to see the big thunderheads through the low flying fog like clouds. We only managed to catch three trout. We took our chances and hooked it to the marsh. We broke through the clounds and it was blue skies and calm water. The first spot was a redfish hole that we pulled four and one fat flat fish. The next couple hours were spent searching for that one spot. We managed a couple of WT's, galftop, and the smallest speckled trout I have ever seen. When the tide started to rise I had one more spot in mind. The water was clean and the wind allowed us to fish. We got on the troll and went down the shoreline being hopeful. With only about thirty yards to the point Josh hooked a fat trout. I threw the spike and Laura hooked a fatty, then I hooked up. It would go like that until Laura had about a six foot bull shark go after her cork. We probablly would have managed their limit had that shark not messed things up. Most fish were caught on jigs on  bottom or under a cork. Ended the day with 35 fat speckled trout, 4 reds , and 1 fat flounder . - Sonny

It is funny how you can go to bed thinking it would be 20 percent chance of rain and 10 knots of wind, then wake up with 70 percent and 15 knots of wind. That is just the nature of the beast! Needless to say, but the weather dictated our day.

We did manage to catch a few fish in the middle of the showers. My first spot was not a planned spot, but we fished live shrimp up against the grass for reds . We hit it right and caught reds, black drum , and a few trout . Dave, Nick, and myself bumped around the marsh catching a few here and there before actually putting some numbers in the boat. All fish caught were on live shrimp under the cork. It has seemed that most of the trout caught in the last week have been in shallow grass and mudlumps. The early morning high water is giving us the chance to fish these areas. Given low water in the morning and the fish probably would not be there. We ended the day with a  descent bag of trout, 6 reds, a black drum , a couple WT's, and a 3lb flounder . - Matt

We have been at it since last week. I have been finding good early morning topwater for trout and reds . I have managed to catch a couple in the four pound range(trout). We are catching good numbers of reds. The trout are a little scatterd but if you hit the right spot the numbers are there. -Matt

Been kinda busy to keep a day to day report log for you guys, but here is the last few days. Wednesday was Lenny Stevens from Hattiesburg, and his pal Kendal. Got an early start and went looking for trout . Worked on some nice ones in the calm water for a good hour and a half. Used live shrimp, topwater and deadly dudley's to put 20 something in the box before the sun was up. Water was low, but the redfish were very hungry in the 3 mile area. Used the rest of the live shrimp to get 4 in the boat in 30 minutes. Used the rest of the day to go looking for triple tail. Went 3 for 4 on some nice ones and called it a day.
Friday was Petals Finest, Uncle Jesse, Joey, and Mike. They even brought another boat along for some more buddies. Water was a little dirty and the white tout had taken over. Both boats loaded their fish boxes with 12 to 14" white trout. Got all we needed and went looking for speckled trout . Found a few more under diving birds, and went looking for redfish. Found 4 right away and they just kinda quit. Water was calm and green so we went looking for triple tail on the way home. Saw one fatty and could not get her to eat. The other boat that was following us around did well also. They had a box full of trout and went 3 for 4 on big triple tail(beginners luck). Back at the Shore Side Lodge all of the boats came home with nice catches of specks, reds , flounder , and triple tail. Very long day, but always a good time with Uncle Jesse and the boys. Saturday was the Butch Bailey group from Rankin. The water was pretty so we started in a new area in the 3 mile area. Found all of the good trout in 2 foot of water or less. Caught plenty of flounder and reds as well. The areas we fished I have fished before, but never that close to the bank and never done that well on big trout and other fish. I wonder if the plague of monster jellyfish has anything to do with this? There were so many jellyfish out there this weekend that if you ran the trolling motor it sounded like you were running it aground. Who knows? Anywho, ended the day with 28 big trout, 7 slot reds, 3 flounder and 1 triple tail. Nice few calm days on the water. -Sonny
